ven though online reviews aren't always completely honest, consumers still pay them a lot of attention. In fact, a recent study has shown that up to 93% of consumers read the reviews before buying a product, making a reviews section one of the most important features you can have on your e-commerce website. And, unless you're an expert at coding, the most efficient way to get this set up will be through one of the Shopify review apps on this list.
But, it isn't enough to get a few basic reviews on your site and then forget about it. As much as 73% of consumers have indicated that they only pay attention to reviews written in the past month. With that in mind, it's important to keep a constant stream of new reviews coming in, so that you can provide your customers will all of the assurances they need to make their purchase. Doing this manually would take much longer than is reasonable. Luckily, there are apps that can go above and beyond basic review collection.
Shopify review apps are apps that help you collect, display, and incentivize product reviews from customers. In this article, we'll be taking a look at some of the top-ranked listings on the Shopify app store. We'll provide you with a summary of what makes the app worth considering, as well as a list of the main features and limitations.
But, before we dive in, let's take a quick look at why reviews are so important.
Benefits of Reviews:
1. Reviews Provide Social Proof
Reviews inform your customer about what the general public thinks about your product(s). If the public loves your products, the customer will want to join in on the fun. If your product's reviews are predominantly negative, this signals that they should stay clear. Either way, your customer is going to want to see what others think about your products before they finalize their own opinion.
2. Reviews Provide Transparency
Reviews give your customer an idea of how many units you are selling. You can't see the other shoppers on an e-commerce site like you can in a physical environment. Everybody is hidden. But, reviews give your customer an idea of how busy your business is. Seeing a constant flow of new reviews is going to be more reassuring than seeing 3-4 reviews from last year. You need to build confidence if you want people to trust you with their money.
3. Reviews Allow Customers To Feel Heard
Both happy and unhappy customers are eager to share their feedback. They want to feel heard, and to feel as though their feedback and opinions can lead to change (if needed). A review section allows customers to express themselves properly, whether they are elated with the shopping experience or frustrated with it. And both of these responses can lead to valuable insights for you, the business's owner.
The Best Shopify Review Apps
Note: Each of these apps comes with many more features, allowances, and nuances than the length of this post can fully cover. Some apps may have features that we failed to mention, but we did our best to summarize everything of importance. The views and opinions reflected in this article are subjective.
#1: Judge.me Product Reviews
Shopify Rating: 5/5 across 4104 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $15/month
Free Trial: Not offered
Summary:
Judge.Me is our pick for number 1 out of the top Shopify review apps. It gives you access to most of the best features, and all for only $15 per month. Even if you only want to stick to the free plan, you'll be able to send an unlimited amount of product review requests, display them elegantly on your site with a review carousel, and have them appear in Google search results. However, if you do opt for the (affordably priced) $15 per month plan, you'll be able to request photo and video reviews, set up a Q&A section, display all your reviews on a dedicated page, and more.
These same features will cost you hundreds of dollars on some of the other apps on this list. But, in our opinion, you're better off sticking to Judge.Me unless you're looking for something specific that it doesn't offer.
Highlights:
- The free plan offers enough for most new stores to start requesting reviews and displaying them.
- The most expensive plan is currently only $15/month and gives you nearly everything you could ask for.
- You can request photo & video reviews, set up a Q&A section, and even display all of your reviews on a dedicated page.
- The app can display your reviews on Google search results, a dedicated page on your site, or even syndicate them across multiple sites. You can also make your products appear under the Google Shopping tab.
- Your reviews can be moderated, and you can select which ones you want to be visible.
- You can set up a review carousel to appear on any page of your site, including checkout.
Downsides:
- If there was one feature we wish it had, it would be A/B testing to find out which review request emails work best.
- This app doesn't work with Shopify POS, so you can't use it in a retail location.
#2: Loox Product Reviews Referrals
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 6484 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: $9.99 - $99.99/month
Free Trial: 14 days
Summary:
Loox has been around for quite a while and is an old favorite. Loox has the most reviews out of all the Shopify review apps on this list, with over 6,400. What makes Loox special is how nice all of the reviews will look on your site. Whether you're collecting photo reviews, video reviews, or just written reviews, Loox will display them as nicely as any other app on this list.
However, the downside with Loox is that it's much more expensive than Judge.Me and some of the other Shopify review apps on this list. It's a decent fit for new stores that don't have a high order volume, but if you're processing >500 orders per month you'll be looking at the $59.99 per month plan, minimum. Is the app still worth it? Sure! But budget-focused stores might be able to get more value out of other Shopify review apps on this list.
Highlights:
- You can collect photo & video reviews, and elegantly display them on your website.
- The app can be integrated with your Facebook Pixel for enhanced data collection.
- You can display your reviews on your Facebook page, Google search results, and a dedicated page on your site. Loox will keep all of these pages up-to-date with the latest reviews.
- Comes with a wide variety of on-site widgets that you can use to collect reviews, referrals, and display social proof.
Downsides:
- The app can get pricey quickly. If you're sending >100 review request emails, you'll need to spring for the Advanced plan at $29.99/month.
- It's very expensive to secure unlimited review request emails. To get to that point you would need to be spending $500/month, which is a bit unreasonable.
- Despite being one of the best Shopify review apps for years, Loox never developed an integration for Shopify POS.
#3: Fera Product Reviews App
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 2997 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $99+/month
Free Trial: 14 days
Summary:
Fera Product Reviews is in our top 3 because it has great features at affordable prices. It's one of the only apps on this list of Shopify review apps that allows you to A/B test your automated review request emails. This app also allows you to set up counter widgets that will show how many customers are viewing a product, how many people have added it to their cart, or how many people have recently purchased the item.
Although Fera has some great features, they come at a price. If you're looking to send over 100 review requests per month, you'll need the $29.99 per month plan at the very least. Once you cross the 1,000 orders per month mark you'll be bumped up to the $99.99 per month plan. If this is within your budget, then it's a great option and a solid alternative to Loox.
Highlights:
- You can ask for written, photo, and video reviews in your automated review request emails.
- You can A/B test review request emails to find out what works best.
- There are many different on-site widgets that you can use to ask for reviews, display product ratings, and display how many customers are considering a product. The design is also fully customizable.
- You can reward customers who submit a review with discounts, cash-back, or points.
- You can A/B test your review request emails to optimize your message.
Downsides:
- Some users claim that the app has a steep learning curve, and can be complicated at first.
- Fera doesn't offer any integrations with apps like Klaviyo or Mailchimp. It also doesn't support Shopify POS.
#4: LAI Reviews - Product Reviews
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 686 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $14.99/month
Free Trial: 7 days
Summary:
If you're on a bit of a budget, then LAI Reviews is one of the Shopify review apps you should be closely considering. The app comes with 3 plans, and the most expensive one will cover up to 2000 review request emails for only $14.99. Photo reviews are included, but, unfortunately, the app does not support video reviews. Beyond that, the app doesn't have very many limitations. You can send coupons in exchange for reviews, change the layout, add on-site widgets, and more. You can also add a call-to-action on your reviews that allows the customer to click-through directly to the product shown (as seen in the photo above).
Highlights:
- The basic ($9.99/month) plan will cover most beginners, and even the most expensive plan is quite affordably priced ($14.99/month).
- You can send review requests by email (written & photo) automatically, and offer coupons in exchange.
- There are review pop-ups and widgets that can be set up, and you can display your reviews on a dedicated page on your site.
- You can display your reviews on Google search results, import reviews from AliExpress, and customize your layouts.
Downsides:
- There are no video reviews, even on the most expensive plan.
- There's no feature to synchronize your reviews with a tab on your Facebook page, nor does LAI integrate with your Facebook pixel.
- LAI Reviews isn't compatible with Shopify POS, in case you have a retail location.
#5: Loyalty, Wishlist, Reviews UGC
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 1285 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $299.99/month
Free Trial: 14 days
Summary:
Growave is a stand-out on this list of Shopify review apps because it offers more than just reviews. This is an all-in-one app that includes a wishlist feature, a rewards/loyalty program, and an Instagram feed in addition to the reviews. In this sense, Growave delivers more value than most of the other apps on this list. These are all features that can contribute towards an exceptional user experience, especially since you can have them all integrated into a single app.
The only downsides about using Growave are that the app doesn't support video reviews and that the pricing plans escalate quickly. However, once you consider that you would be paying for other apps for the wishlist, rewards program, and Instagram feed, you'll see that Growave offers some solid value for its price.
Highlights:
- Can send out automated review request emails (written & photo), including reviews for multiple products in the same email.
- The app comes with other features, such as wishlists, loyalty/rewards programs, referral programs, Q&A sections, and more. Having these features bundled can save you money and make your store run faster.
- Growave can be integrated with applications like Klaviyo and Omnisend, and also allow your customers to log in with social media.
- You can set up a shoppable Instagram feed, which seamlessly ties in your social media account with your store.
- This app works with Shopify POS, which is great for stores with a retail location.
Downsides:
- The price plans can scale up quickly. If you want everything they offer, you're looking at $299.99/month.
- There are no video reviews, even on the most expensive plan.
#6: Ali Reviews - Product Reviews
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 5528 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: $9.90 - $99.90/month
Free Trial: 7 days
Summary:
Ali Reviews is one of the less prominent Shopify review apps that are still deserving of mainstream consideration. This well-designed app comes with some of the best features from this list, and for affordable prices. The company is generous with the amount of review request emails they include with each plan, and even the $19.90/month plan will allow you to send up to 1,500 emails per month. While the app doesn't support video reviews, each review can have multiple photos, and can even display the customer's picture (pulled from social media log-in) and the flag of the country in which they reside.
Our main criticism of Ali Reviews is that they make it expensive for you to remove the "Powered by Ali Reviews" that is added to your review page. But, based on the value that this application adds, you might choose to wear that with pride.
Highlights:
- Can bulk import reviews from AliExpress, which is useful if you're selling an AliExpress product.
- The plan with the most value is affordably priced at $19.90/month, and allows you to send up to 1,500 review request emails.
- You can collect multi-photo reviews, and display them alongside the customer's photo (pulled from the social login) and their country of residence. This adds even more trust with prospective customers.
- You can set up your reviews to appear in the Google Shopping Tab and a dedicated page on your site.
Downsides:
- You'll likely need to spring for at least the $19.90 plan since the $9.90 option only comes with 150 orders/month.
- While it does offer photo reviews, unfortunately, Ali Reviews does not support video reviews.
- Unless you're willing to spring for the $49.90 or $99.90/month plan, your reviews section is going to be branded with "Powered by Ali Reviews".
#7: Yotpo Product Reviews & Photos
Shopify Rating: 4.8/5 across 2693 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $499+/month
Free Trial: Not offered
Summary:
Yotpo is another contender on this list of Shopify review apps that is worth considering. This app comes with most of the features that you would expect after looking at the other apps we mentioned, with the exception of video reviews and a Facebook tab sync. Yotpo doesn't attempt to include other features like Growave, and instead focuses on being the best review app it can be.
Our only real criticisms of Yotpo are the lack of video reviews, and how severely it limits the number of orders you can ask for reviews from. The $19/month plan only allows you to collect reviews from 50 orders per month, which drastically reduces the speed at which you can build up a large collection. Even if you upgrade to the $29 or $49/month plans, you're still limited to 75 and 100 reviews respectively. Great features, but it's a shame you can't use them more.
Highlights:
- You can send review request emails (written & photo), and display them on a reviews carousel.
- Your reviews can be displayed on Google search results using Rich Snippets, and also on a dedicated reviews page.
- You can moderate your reviews, and filter out the ones you don't think add any value. There's also a Q&A section so your customers can ask and respond to questions.
- You can send customers coupons to incentivize them to leave a review.
- The app is also compatible with Kit, Shopify's built-in marketing assistant.
Downsides:
- There are no video reviews, even on the most expensive plan.
- The plans get expensive quickly, and some fairly basic features (e.g. Q&A section) will set you back $299/month.
- There's no feature to get your reviews synchronized with your Facebook reviews tab.
#8: Stamped.io Product Reviews UGC
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 4810 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $299+/month
Free Trial: 3 days
Summary:
Stamped is one of the Shopify review apps on this list that is doing things differently. In addition to having most of the features that you will have to come to expect by now, Stamped also allows you to send review requests by text message. Every one of their paid plans comes with a one-time SMS allowance that can be topped up when you need it. Each text will take about $0.07 cents off your balance, which isn't terrible. This minor up-charge will allow you to stand out from your competitors and can result in a higher percentage of reviews and closer customer relationships if you use it properly.
Highlights:
- You can request reviews (written/photo/video) by both email and SMS.
- You can set up comments and a Q&A section on your product listings, as well as various on-site widgets.
- Your reviews can be displayed throughout the checkout process.
- You can feature your reviews on Facebook, Google search results, and a dedicated page
Downsides:
- Some of the most appealing features, like the Q&A section and video reviews, are only available on the $119/month plan, which is quite pricey.
- You can easily incur extra charges if you use the SMS feature often.
#9: Rivyo Product Reviews
Shopify Rating: 4.9/5 across 1376 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free - $14.99/month
Free Trial: Not offered
Summary:
Rivyo is one of the Shopify review apps that is differentiating itself based on price. While the app offers most of the same features as the other ones on this list, Rivyo does so at an extremely competitive price point. For the price of a cup of coffee ($5.99), Rivyo can set you up with 500 review request emails per month. Or, you can spring for unlimited review requests for only $14.99. You also get access to a Q&A section, a dedicated reviews page, in-app analytics, and more.
To be quite honest, the visual display of the reviews seems to be a bit inferior compared to apps like Ali Reviews and Loox, but the price point certainly makes up for it.
Highlights:
- The free plan comes with unlimited product reviews, SEO snippets (to display your reviews in Google search results), and you can import your reviews from other platforms.
- The Enterprise Plan ($14.99) is extremely affordable and is the highest-tier plan they offer. It comes with unlimited automated reviews (written/photo), Q&A sections, a dedicated reviews page, and more.
- You can import reviews from AliExpress and Amazon if your products are selling on those sites.
Downsides:
- There are no video reviews, no integrations with apps like Klaviyo, and no Shopify POS support.
- The app does not synchronize your reviews with a tab on your Facebook page.
- There's no feature to offer your customers a discount code or reward points in exchange for their review.
- The review display layouts are nice, but not amazing.
#10: Product Reviews by Shopify
Shopify Rating: 3.7/5 across 1425 Reviews (Updated March 12th)
Pricing Range: Free!
Free Trial: Not needed — the app is free!
Summary:
Product Reviews is an app created by Shopify itself, and it's the only one on this list that is completely free. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. This app is fairly basic, and the main purpose it serves is to allow your customers to leave reviews directly through your website. There are no review request emails, no photo or video reviews, and no dedicated reviews page. However, if you're just looking to passively collect written reviews and comments, and have them show up on your Google searches, then this app has you covered.
Did we mention it's free?
Highlights:
- The application is completely free and has no pricing plans or upsells.
- The app is designed to be fully customizable and can match any store's theme without any coding.
- Rich SEO snippets can display your product reviews on Google Search results.
- You can set up a Comments section on your product pages.
Downsides:
- There's no function to email customers asking for a review. You would need to do that manually.
- The application seems to experience more glitches and bugs than the other ones on this list, based on the reviews.
- The features are very limiting. You can't add photos to reviews, syndicate them to a Facebook tab, set them up on a dedicated reviews page, or anything cool. You're stuck with the absolute basics.
